One in six couples face the problem of infertility, but only every other couple seeks medical attention. Infertility is defined as a situation where a woman has not been able to conceive for a period of one year, even though the couple has not been using contraception.
Studies have shown that in about a third of cases, the cause of infertility lies with the female, in another third it lies with the male, and in a third of cases, both partners have reduced levels of fertility. In about 10% of couples, the cause of infertility remains unclear. But regardless of the cause of infertility, the use of in vitro fertilisation, or IVF, can help to achieve the best results.
